Thank You Max Factor

Did you know that Max Factor produced the first commercially released concealer in 1938? Thank goodness for that saucy devil Max Factor because I am caking on the concealer this morning. With Clay away and Weston coughing more than a 40-year smoker and cutting molars, this momma isn’t getting much sleep. It probably doesn’t help that I ate three four brownies last night while judging Hollywood elite skinnier and richer than me.

I just hope I don’t look like Elizabeth Mitchell while running my errands. Yikes.

My weekend was filled with garage organization, bathroom painting, cabinet and counter refinishing, and revamping a desk. Also a lot of toddler wrangling. Lots and lots of wrangling. I also spent $15 at the Ft. Sill Thrift Shop and came home with a desk chair and two chairs for the little guy. More to come on all of these (not so? maybe so?) exciting developments. I must admit, I sometimes feel quite lame for blogging about our little home improvement projects.

So with the following fantastic message, I bid you a fantastic monday filled with caffeine, can-do attitude, and a refreshed spirit. Today is trash day so Weston is excitedly waiting for the garbage truck so he can wave to the sanitation workers . May we all greet today with the same level of appreciation. Happy Monday!

Be Well

After traveling 3,291 miles, we’re back in good ol’ Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain. We’re tired, we’re sick, and we’re glad to be home. While we thoroughly enjoyed the adventure of visiting family and friends in the southeast over the past 2.5 weeks, Clay and I both agree that next year we will stay put during the Christmas season – just for something different.

We arrived home late Saturday night, just in time to ring in the new year. 2012 promises to bring a new house, a new job in academia, a new venture, and new sense of appreciation. 2011 was a difficult year at times, filled with lessons that I wasn’t necessarily ready to learn. But I am so glad I did.

A friend from high school posted the following words on Facebook …”We cannot rely on a good life that is based on factors outside our control like the economy, the stock market, global labor dynamics and technological innovation. Yet we can rely on a good life that is based on what is largely within our control like our our well-being, our relationships, our beliefs, our sense of purpose and our contribution to society.Bright Green Talent

Rather than list redundant resolutions, I thought I’d share my motto for 2012 - Be well. This encompasses all aspects of my life – strengthening my physical core, emotional self, professional being, and the impact I have on our world. My life is not perfect. But that doesn’t mean that it can’t be spectacular. I have big plans. Just watch me.

Eye Twitches and Holiday Cheer

Sometimes, when I consume too much caffeine in too short of time, my left eye twitches uncontrollably. I never mind – partially because I am too coked up on espresso to become annoyed, and probably because I absolutely love being in the semi-manic world that the caffeine creates for me. The hyper-focus, the unforgiving energy, and the confidence to take on the seemingly impossible – thank you grande nonfat latte with no foam.

Our last couple of days in town are a whirlwind of wedding planning, house packing, and Christmas parties. Soon we will be on the road, Scott and Kelly will be married, it will be Christmas, a new year will begin, and we will close on our new (to us) house. I’ll go into more detail later but The Red Door Lodge (what I’ve been referring the soon-to-be-ours-casa), is a  one-story ranch home built in 1983 with (you guessed it) a red door. It is partially updated so we’re looking forward to rolling up our sleeves (a’la politician style) and putting our DIY skills to the test. This blog won’t turn into a DIY blog but I will probably showcase projects and such, which will be filed under The Red Door Lodge heading to the left. So if you hate anything related to renovation and decor, you probably won’t stay a fan of My Goal is Simple. Sorry!

So that is what our little family has been up too. The next couple of weeks are filled with travel, relaxing with family, and the like. We’re putting the finishing touches on our ugly Christmas sweaters (my family is having a contest on Christmas Day) and trying to convince Weston that Santa isn’t an evil homicidal maniac. If you excuse me, I must go – my left eye is twitching again.
